Purple Pushpin vs ChamberMaster

ChamberMaster and GrowthZone are the same company and the default choice for a lot of American chambers. Here is what it costs, what it does well, and the two line items that do not appear on the quote.

Prices checked September 2026. Every figure below comes from GrowthZone’s own website or help desk and is linked at the bottom.

The short answer

ChamberMaster publishes one number: subscriptions start at $3,900 a year. It does not publish its onboarding fee, its website pricing, or its payment processing rate, though it confirms all three exist. Purple Pushpin is $129 a month and a $2,000 website build, and that is the entire price.

Over five years, the part of ChamberMaster you can actually see costs about twice what Purple Pushpin costs in total. The parts you cannot see are the reason the gap is probably wider.

ChamberMaster / GrowthZone

$19,500+ over five years, at their published starting rate

Plus onboarding, plus a website, plus processing. None of those three amounts are published.

Purple Pushpin

$9,740 over five years, everything included

$129 a month locked for two years, plus the one-time $2,000 build. Website, directory, events, dues and email are all in it.

Their figure is $3,900 × 5. Ours is $129 × 60 plus the $2,000 build. Both are arithmetic on published prices, not quotes.

Your members may pay a 5% fee at checkout

GrowthZone offers a fee recoupment option it calls the Zero Fee program. If your chamber turns it on, the cost of processing is moved onto the person paying. From GrowthZone’s own help desk:

“5% platform service fee is surfaced to the payer as a separate line item during checkout on top of their purchase price.”GrowthZone Help Desk, Fee Recoupment Overview

The same article notes the fee “does not appear as revenue for the association” and that the funds “never enter your banking or reconciliation.” On a $300 sponsorship that is $15 added to your member’s total. On $40,000 of annual dues and event tickets it is $2,000 a year leaving your members’ pockets, which never appears on your own invoice at all.

GrowthZone’s standard processing rate is not published. Their help desk does confirm it rose: “Your processing fee will increase by 0.14% (14 basis points) for non-American Express credit cards,” effective May 1, 2026.

How we do it. Your chamber connects its own Stripe account. Members pay Stripe’s published rate and nothing else, because the money never passes through us. We do not have a payments product to sell you, which is the only reliable reason a vendor will not take a cut.

Check whether Google can see your directory

This is worth five minutes of your time whoever you end up choosing. Many chambers run their ChamberMaster directory and events on a chambermaster.com subdomain rather than their own domain.

We checked two live chamber sites on those subdomains in September 2026. Both served a robots file reading User-agent: * / Disallow: / — an instruction to every search engine not to index any of it. On those two sites, the member directory and the events calendar cannot appear in search results at all.

We could not verify whether running the modules on your own domain changes this, and we are not going to claim it does. But if your directory lives at yourchamber.chambermaster.com, open yourchamber.chambermaster.com/robots.txt and see for yourself. It takes ten seconds and it is your own data.

Credit where it is due. On the underlying search fundamentals ChamberMaster is genuinely good, and better than most of this market. It gives you a meta description field on every individual event and every member record, its URLs are readable rather than numeric, and it publishes proper structured data so Google can understand what an event is. That is more than several competitors manage. The robots file is a deployment question, not a product flaw.

When ChamberMaster is the better choice

You have staff, and you want one vendor for everything

ChamberMaster is a deep, mature product with two decades of chamber-specific features behind it, and a support organization to match. If you have two or three full-time staff, run a large member benefits program, and want a single vendor accountable for all of it, that is a real argument and we are not going to pretend otherwise. We are two people. We are not a substitute for a company that size.

The buyer we fit is the chamber with one staff member and a volunteer board, where $3,900 a year before onboarding is most of the technology budget.

The differences that are not about money

  • You can see the price before you talk to anyone. GrowthZone’s main pricing page carries no figures and routes to a demo request. Ours is on the website.
  • Your dues go to your Stripe account. We never hold your members’ money, so we cannot take a percentage of it.
  • Your site is WordPress. If you leave, you leave with a standard WordPress site and a full export, not a data dump that needs a new vendor to read it.
  • Every feature at every size. Grow your mailing list from 400 to 4,000 and the invoice does not move. It only steps up past 10,000 contacts.

Straight numbers. All of them, now.

$129 a month for up to 10,000 contacts, locked for two years from the day you start, and a $2,000 website build. No demo required to find that out.
